EMDR

I am an EMDR trained clinician. I utilize Safe EMDR principles throughout my practice. If you are interested in receiving EMDR as part of your therapeutic process, please let me know. We will work out an individualized treatment plan that works for you.

EMDR means Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is an extensively researched, effective method of intervention that is proven to aid in recovery from trauma and other distressing life experiences.

A simple way to think of it is as if our memories are like files stored in the file cabinet of our brain. When we have a distressing event, it is like our memory file was spilled and became mixed up. When this happens, our memory files may not be stored in the same way as our other memories. Due to this, it might be hard to have an accurate memory of what happened or our past difficult memories get mixed up with current events in a way that causes a high level of emotional discomfort during events that have nothing to do with the original distressing event. EMDR is a process which allows our body to naturally re-organize those old memory files so that they no longer get in the way.
